The Western Sydney Recovery College is looking to form a student advisory group, The Student Voice, which will help provide expert advice to support the development, delivery, monitoring, and evaluation of the Western Sydney Recovery College. The group will consist of consumers, carers, family members, community members, and mental health workers who are previous or current students of WSRC.

The recovery college is based on a co-production model and delivers co-designed workshops across the Western Sydney Region. The Peer Educator’s role is to co-develop and co-deliver workshops with Professional Educators. Applicants from CALD and LGBTQI communities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Julie Miller comes to the Recovery College with over twenty years of experience working in mental health. She was instrumental in establishing the One Door Mental Health pilot college at Chatswood and the college recently established in South West Sydney. Julie has qualifications in psychology and special education, mental health recovery, training and counselling. She has worked as a trainer for the Mental Health Coordinating Council (MHCC) and for the last fifteen years as a practice advisor in mental health services including Partners in Recovery (PIR). Julie is really enthusiastic to be working in this innovative model of supporting people on their recovery journey.

Bridget has recently joined the team as the Engagement Officer. Bridget has previously worked for One Door as a peer worker and is also a Mental Health Educator. Her background is in youth mental health and she is currently studying a Masters in Social Work.

One Door Mental Health is delighted to announce that it is delivering the Western Sydney Recovery College service and programs from 1 July 2017. We will be offering an expanded range of courses in a four locations across western Sydney. One of our new programs is the Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work which will commence in October 2017. Mental Health Co-ordinating Council is our RTO who will deliver this program. Individuals interested in this course are encouraged to attend a “Get Qualified” information session prior to enrolling. Western Sydney Recovery College is an initiative of the Western Sydney PHN, Wentwest. All courses are co-designed and co-delivered by educators with lived experience and educators with clinical or professional experience to give a shared voice and understanding of mental health. All courses are open to people with lived experience of a mental health condition, their carers, family members and to workers and volunteers in the mental health and community sectors.
