We are excited to release our Term 2 2018 Course Guide!
Along with our regular courses covering the streams What is Mental Health, Skills for Life, and Health and Wellbeing, we have developed some diverse programs that are commencing this term.
Compared with the rest of Australia, Western Sydney has a high population of immigrants and people that speak languages other than English at home. Of this, over 10 per cent of the Western Sydney population speak Arabic at home. We are therefore running the first of our programs that will be delivered in Arabic by bilingual educators that will include translated course materials. Mindfulness (Arabic) will run in May and June in Auburn.
In the past year the debate around Marriage Equality brought to light the disproportionate mental health concerns experienced by LGBTIQ people. As a result, we delivered an LGBTIQ Inclusivity workshop in Term 1, and have added two new LGBTIQ focused courses to our Term 2 schedule, Introduction to Self-Advocacy and Self-Advocacy Skills. Western Sydney Recovery College is a safe space for LGBTIQ people.
