Tell Your Story – Get involved in the Pride Flag raising for IDAHOBIT Day

If you live or work in the Blacktown area and identify as part of the LGBTIQ community, or are a family member or friend of someone who does, you are invited to write a story about this experience.

The Pride Flag will be raised in the Blacktown LGA on May 16th, to commemorate IDAHOBIT, International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism, and Transphobia, which is held on May 17th. As part of this event, local community services are asking Blacktown residents and workers to submit a short story, 250-350 words, about their experience of being a part of the LGBTIQ community and living or working in the Blacktown area.

Whether you have a story of hope, a story of sadness, a story of courage, or a story of laughter, we invite you to put your pen to paper! We are interested in stories of people from various and diverse walks of life, cultures, and age ranges.

A selection of submitted stories will be displayed on posters at the pride flag raising ceremony at the Village Green, Flushcombe Road, Blacktown from 4-6pm on Thursday 16th May. All stories received will be printed in a booklet form, which will be handed out to people who attend the event. The purpose of this is to give value and voice to the diversity of experience of the LGBTIQ community in Blacktown.

Please submit your 250-350-word story in an easily readable format, such as Microsoft Word, or legible hand-writing, by Thursday April 18th. Please include your initials and your age, or you may request that you remain anonymous.
