‘Keeping Well During the Pandemic’ – In-language online webinars for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Communities

As part of October’s Mental Health Month, the Transcultural Mental Health Centre (TMHC) is organising a series of online webinars in multiple languages for members of CALD Communities. The webinars will focus on the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on our mental health and wellbeing, how to recognise symptoms of mental distress in ourselves and others and provide information on where to seek help. The webinars will also provide tips and skills on how to manage stress and keep well during this challenging time. The webinars will be in-language or in English with an interpreter.

Walk for Wellness this World Mental Health Day

2021 would mark the ninth annual Wellness Walk over the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge for One Door Mental Health. Now 18 months into the pandemic, it is important to continue to raise awareness on the impact of COVID-19 on the people we support, motivate them to stay active and halt the decline in their physical health.

One Door Mental Health is planning to set up a support group for people who hear voices. The support group will aim to be non-judgmental and provide a stigma-free experience for people who hear voices.

Suicide Prevention Outreach Team – Survey Invitation

Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) is currently working with Lived Experience Participants to co-design a new Suicide Prevention Service as part of the Toward Zero Suicide Initiative, Suicide Prevention Outreach Team (SPOT). This is a state-wide initiative with the co-design being facilitated by our partner Inside Out. WSLHD want your feedback for developing this service!

Researchers from the University of Newcastle are investigating the role that Community Managed Organisations (CMOs) play in improving the physical health of consumers with a lived experience of a mental health issue. As someone who accesses support from One Door we are interested in hearing about your experiences with the service, particularly around any care provided for your physical health.

Changes at One Door – Jayke Burgess, Recovery College Manager stays on

The recovery college team wanted to update you on some changes that have taken place over January. After discussion with One Door it has been agreed that Jayke (the recovery college manager) will continue in his role for the next 12 months to support the college in its transition to self-organising teams. At this stage, this simply means business as usual and Jayke can be contacted for support or collaboration.

This means that our service will no longer have a manager, and we are unfortunately losing Jayke Burgess (me!). Schizophrenia Patient Value Mapping Study

One Door Mental Health have partnered with SANE and CaPPRe, an independent research organisation, to conduct research with people who have been diagnosed with schizophrenia for over 12 months.
