Title: Community Engagement officer
Area/Region: Western Sydney Recovery College
Role Reports To: Manager, Recovery College
Location: Parramatta (with some travel)
Hours: 15.2 hours per week (negotiable)
Salary: SCHADS Level 3, paypoint depending upon skills and experience. Enhanced by generous salary packaging entitlements.
Position Specific Responsibilities
1. Work with mental health workers, community workers, education providers, consumer and carer led support groups and advocacy groups to promote the programs offered by Western Sydney Recovery College;
2. Provide information and support to potential course participants to encourage and support enrolments and to support ongoing participation in the courses and programs;
3. Provide one on one assistance to students to develop their Learning Plans.
4. Provide a secretariat role to the Consumer/Carer Advisory Board;
5. Attend community events and interagencies to share and connect with service providers and individuals, market western sydney recovery college to the larger community, and connect with service providers to initiate partnerships.
6. Other duties as requested by the Recovery College Manager
Position Criteria
Essential
· Relevant tertiary qualifications in mental illness to a minimum of Certificate IV
· Previous experience working with individuals with a psychiatric condition, specifically in the community services or education sector
· A thorough understanding of the Recovery based approach to assisting people with severe and persistent mental illness
· Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team internally and externally
· High level communication skills, both written and verbal
· Sound IT competence with Microsoft programs, Client Management Systems, electronic timesheets, and ability to adapt to new systems as they are introduced
Desirable
· Understanding of educational requirements of families and carers of someone with a mental illness
· Experience in the delivery of training & education programs in this sector
· Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
· Experience in the development of training materials for adults
· Project management experience
· Knowledge of and experience in working with people from a culturally and linguistically diverse background
